Skull Gear Bonebreaker, 225 cm, 1-10g casting weight (Transport length 117cm)
After two uses at the trout pond, I would like to share my experiences with the Skullgear Bonebreaker with you.
The first impression was very appealing. A nice straight and, above all, quite thin blank. The nine guides are aligned and are more large than small, but visually fit the rod very well. Another plus is the integrated hook keeper. The reel seat is of high quality and visually very successful. The butt cap and Duplon grips are also cleanly finished.
The casting weight is specified correctly, although the blank feels more comfortable at the upper end of its range. Of course, you can cast 1g spoons, but its true strength lies in handling spoon lures in the 3g-7g range. However, you can also cast and control 10g bulldogs. The length of 225cm in particular allows the lures to reach distances I hadn't expected before, especially since I tended to use a thick line (PE 0.6) on my reel. The tip of the blank is not too soft, and the backbone is robust. Even larger salmon trout pose no problem for this rod, and catching regular portion trout is a real pleasure with it.
I paired the rod with a Daiwa Exceler LT 2500, and the balance point is directly above the grip. A 2000 size reel would also fit perfectly. I only chose the 2500 version because it was available. But I'm not unhappy with the decision at all. The reel matches the Bonebreaker visually and in terms of size very well.
Overall, both the reel and the rod are absolute price-performance winners in my rather large tackle room. I own significantly more expensive combos, and anyone who can do without the very last refinement and overly fancy decorative wraps will be happy with this rod and definitely won't go wrong.
